STUDENT REGULATIONS
MORTGAGE BANKERS SCHOOL OF P. R.

Important:
  • The courses expire 10 years after having been taken
  • For each absence 10 points shall be deducted. The grade obtained for absences shall be calculate with your final grade.
  • The diagnostic examinations of Mortgage Banking and Loan Origination, do not substitute the class. These courses must be taken or convalidated by others, if the certification so requires it.
  • The MBA does not make itself responsible for thefts or robbery of your vehicle.
  • Children may not be brought to school.
Policy of the use of the Social Security:
MBS has as a norm the confidentiality of the information which we obtain from our students. This information includes not only that which the student provides, be it his social security number and personal data, but also that which is related to the courses and grades which the student obtains. This information is of a confidential nature and belongs to the MBS. It may only be examined by the members of the Board of Directors of the MBS and administrative personnel. In addition said information may be available to regulatory agencies of the federal and state government and for the external auditors of the MBA and the MBS. It is the norm of the MBS that those cases in which the company for whom the student works has paid the course, it is inferred that the student has given his consent for it to have the right to be informed of the attendance, grades and any other information related to same. The student who has paid his course shall receive the information directly from the MBS and the company for whom he works shall not have access to it, without the prior consent of the student. MBS has a strict policy of control concern- ing social security numbers, which will be tendered to student the first day of classes.

Rules inside and outside the classroom:
  • No student, under any circumstance, shall be admitted to the school in a state of intoxication or under the evident effect of narcotics or narcotics. The use of drugs or narcotics in the facilities of the school or adjacent areas is prohibited and is cause for the automatic and irrevocable expulsion of the student without the right to reimbursement
  • It is completely prohibited to eat inside the classroom.
  • Students must turn off their beepers and cell phones prior to entering their classrooms, so as not to interrupt the learning process of their class mates
  • The contracted security guards have instructions to reserve parking spaces, for professors. We appreciate the cooperation of the students in this regard.
  • The Fire Department prohibits smoking inside the classrooms, the Health Department prohibits it in the hallways and the owner f the building (MBA) which gives us the facilities, prohibits it in any place within its property. In order to smoke you must go outside the building and of the parking before class schedules or during breaks.
Manuals
The cost of the course includes a student manual during the entire quarter since its replacement cost is $75.00 Classes shall be conducted in Spanish but the majority of the texts may be in English.

Calendar
Classes begin on September 15, 2009. In case of needing additional class days the administration will so inform the students and professors with sufficient advance notice. Should there be any day in which classes do not meet for reasons beyond our control, another day will be coordinated to complete the 19 days of classes.

The Mortgage Bankers School of Puerto Rico, Inc (MBS) is a non-profit corporation, subsidiary of the Mortgage Bankers Association of PR, Inc. (MBA) and possesses a license from the Consejo General de Educacion, to operate as a school.

The MBS is administered by a Board of Directors which is presided by Mrs. Leslie Torres, who in turn is a member of the Board of Governors of the MBA. The members of the Board of Directors of the MBS come from firms affiliated to the MBA. In an industry as specialized as ours, the knowledge which is acquired at the MBS are unmatched by any other institution, since they include, not only the theory of each course in particular, but also the personal experience of the professors who dedicate themselves to their respective professions in executive positions in the principal financial institutions in our country. The purpose of this regulation is to disseminate the norms established by the MBS which affect the students in their participation in School.

Rights and Duties of Students
The principal and basic right of every student is that educating himself and learning. This consists in exercising his right to study and the duty of behaving in such a manner that his conduct not obstruct the other members of the educational community in the exercise of their rights and their complying with all their duties. The task itself of discipline under study constitutes the central point of the teacher-student relationship. The professor shall develop a creative dialogue and freedom of expression. Neither the professor nor the student shall use the classroom as a tribune to preach partisan politics, sectarian religious doctrines, not related to the subjects being taught. The student is always responsible for complying with the demands inherent to the matter being studied and with all the requirements of the course. The evaluation and qualification of the student shall be based on consideration relative to his academic achievement measured in all the forms in which it can be done.

The relation of student and the professor outside the classroom forms part of the educational process. The student has the right to meet with the professor on specially agreed to schedule to request orientation and clarify aspects of his academic work.

For a full refund, cancellations should be requested up to 1 week before the beginning of courses. The student or the company shall have the right to a 60% reimbursement of the registration in case the withdrawal is made on or before the day after the second class. After that date there will not be reimbursements. During this period one student may be substituted for another.

The student must comply with the academic calendar and the schedule established by the school. He must attend all the classes punctually. The classes at the MBS shall meet in one section of Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM. Every 3 latenesses of 15 minutes or more shall constitute 1 absence.

To complete the case, he must comply with the following requirements: take all the examinations, do all the work required by the professor, finish with a grade average of over 70%, and attend a class having a maximum allowed absence of 3, (with or without justification). This is a requirement of the Consejo General de Educación and to comply with the accreditation by the student.

Those students who do not comply with any of the requirements specified, shall receive an incomplete. Should he have any allegation in regard to it, he must communicate immediately with the administrative office. He shall have 30 days for claims, after the date of the last day of classes.

Each student must sign the attendance sheet daily as evidence of his attendance to classes. It shall be his responsibility.

The student who completes the course shall receive a certificate of participation and a letter certifying his grade. Any claim must be notified immediately to the professor or to the administration of MBS.

All courses of the MBS have a duration of 19 sessions of 2.5 hours each one, for a total of 48 hours. For real estate brokers, the 48 hours are equivalent to 6 credits for the renewal of the license as approved by Board of Examiners Real Estate, Department of State.
